Texas is known for it’s big blue sky, vast amount of land, cattle, ranches and southern charm. With so many ranches to choose from in Texas; it is an impossible feat to visit them all in one vacation. Ranches will vary from rustic to modern, working to historical. There is a perfect ranch for each family that visits Texas.

South of Fort Worth, the Beaumont Ranch is a full working cattle ranch. They offer bed and breakfast style lodging, a restaurant and a full service spa. You can become a working cowboy on trail rides, cattle herding and roping. They also have the longest zip line in Texas and offer ATV trail tours.

Running R Ranch is located in the heart of Texas hill country. This is a working horse ranch, they have staff that can teach new cowboys and cowgirls how to ride. While this ranch is only 230 acres, they are adjacent to the Hill County State Natural Area that is over 5,500 acres. The staff at the ranch ride daily into this park and with numerous trails, guests always find something new. The ranch offers solid oak cabins with all the modern conveniences, a restaurant that serves cowboy style buffets at breakfast and lunch.

While there are many historical non-working ranches in Texas, one of the most famous is Southfork located in Plano. Made famous by the television series, “Dallas”, thousands of visitors come each year to tour the mansion and grounds. Tours include seeing memorabilia from the television show, admiring Texas longhorns up close and watching American Quarter Horses. Chuck wagon dinners are available for large groups; down home cooking and live cowboy entertainment is provided.

For those who prefer something more upscale, the Lajitas Golf Resort and Spa offers cowboy living in a five star environment. Trail riding, skeet shooting, golfing, spa services and hunting are offered. The ranch has four fine dining restaurants and luxurious accommodations.
